IBZ Berlin – An International Community of Scientists
For the last nine years I have worked as the manager of IBZ Berlin, which offers a temporary home for scientists from around the world and their families during their work stay at one of the Berlin universities and other academic institutions. Besides providing homes and common facilities we regularly organize social events, lectures, parties and concerts. The name stands for Internationales Begegnungszentrum der Wissenschaft, which means international meeting center for the sciences.
The special architecture inspired by the Bauhaus movement supports easy interactions and casual encounters. Since all of the residents of this relatively large community are in a similar situation, it usually takes very little for them to connect with each other. Many life-long friendships have been established at the IBZ which continue when our guests eventually return to their home countries.
